NDP Caucus retreat in Swan River

The NDP held their twice annual caucus retreat in Swan River January 17-18, 2013.

At caucus retreats, Members of the Legislative Assembly, who are usually busy in their own constituencies, meet in community settings throughout the province.

This year, in Swan River, Ministers familiarized themselves with local industry, housing and education:

  • The Premier, Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn (Swan River) and Conservation Minister Gord Mackintosh (St. Johns) visited Louisiana-Pacific Canada.

  • Housing Minister Kerri Irvin-Ross toured the Swan River Day Care Centre and was joined by Kostyshyn at Sunset Place, a Manitoba Housing initiative.

  • The local Community Living Manitoba facility welcomed Healthy Living Minister Jim Rondeau and the Premier visited the Richardson Recreation and Wellness Centre.

  • Infrastructure & Transportation Minister Steve Ashton met with councillors from the RMs and towns of Swan River and Minitonas.

In between working sessions, MLAs were welcomed to meals at Why Not Johnny’s and the Westwood Inn. Local musicians entertained over dinner Thursday night. MLAs shared lunch the following day with community members, businesses and guests from local First Nations Sapotaweyak, Tootinaowaziibeeng and Wuskwi Sipihk.

All of the NDP Members of the Legislative Assembly thank the citizens of the Swan River constituency for their generous welcome and look forward to visiting the area again.
