Hello Neighbours!

I have been fortunate to witness some remarkable things that have been accomplished in the Kildonan constituency, the most recent of which is the expansion to the Garden City Community Centre that will see the addition of a new twin pad indoor arena, to be known as the Seven Oaks Arena.

This landmark in our area is such an integral part of this neighbourhood, and it’s really exciting to see the willingness of the community centre’s dedicated and determined volunteers to be a contributing partner in these important improvements to the facility.

With 100,000 square feet of new, indoor recreation space added to the existing soccer and community centre complex, the potential recreation opportunities in our neighbourhood will be even greater for residents of all ages.

The province has an ongoing commitment to partnering with other levels of government and individual communities across Manitoba to provide quality recreation facilities for exercise and healthy activities. Our goal is to increase the available recreation options for everyone.

The more recreation choices people have, the more likely they are to get active. This benefits the communities and the province as a whole on so many levels. We know that capital investments in projects like this one strengthen neighbourhoods, attract more families and have long term commercial and residential advantages for the whole area.

The participation of the Garden City volunteers in this project will help ensure the specific needs of the community are met through the twin rinks, fitness and retail space and new general program space on the second level.

As your MLA, I am pleased that our government is a founding partner in the creation of this much needed multiplex and I know the province will continue to support the renewal of recreational infrastructure in this city and in municipalities all across Manitoba.
