More nurses, better healthcare

The Province is investing in training more nurses in order to continue its focus on improving health care for Manitobans.

Over 60 new training seats will be created including three new initiatives: a doctoral nursing program at University of Manitoba, a rotating rural site for licensed practical nurses through Assiniboine Community College and a new francophone nursing program at Université de Saint-Boniface.

Budget 2013 also invests over $3.7 million into the Nursing Recruitment and Retention Fund including grants to recruit nurses to Manitoba from outside of the province, grants to attract more nurses to personal care homes and continuing education funding for existing nurses.

Nurses are an essential part of meeting the demand for better access to health services, a demand that the government intends to meet by providing a family doctor to everyone who wants one by 2015.
