A sure sign of spring is the arrival of Beautify Elmwood’s flower boxes along Henderson Highway.

The flowers and community gardens that line our streets and the many residents who beautify their own homes truly gives Elmwood its vibrancy.

Thank you to the many volunteers who help make these wonderful additions to our community possible. I’m also looking forward to seeing the new bicycle-shaped bike racks that Beautify Elmwood has in store for us. By June these intriguing art pieces will adorn our streets and provide cyclists with a secure place to lock up their bikes.

Congratulations to the Concordia Foundation on the success of its 31st Annual Gala honouring Winnipeg’s own 2014 Sochi Olympic gold medallists, the Women’s Curling team led by Jennifer Jones. The Concordia Foundation is currently fundraising for a new Concordia Health and Fitness Centre. The planned facility will be a welcome asset to our community, encouraging wellness and inspiring us to adopt healthier lifestyles. On April 29 I attended a joint provincial and City of Winnipeg announcement concerning important improvements to local streets here in Elmwood. Work will soon begin on sections of Dunrobin Avenue, Harbison Avenue West, Woodvale Street, and Besant Street. These street improvements are just a part of the Manitoba Government’s $250-million commitment to Winnipeg streets, which in turn is part of our government’s $5.5-billion Five-Year Plan to build a stronger Manitoba.
