NDP Call for Health Care to Stay Public

January 3, 2018

Today NDP Leader Wab Kinew and NDP Health Critic Andrew Swan wrote to the federal Minister of Health requesting assistance in maintaining core health services public in Manitoba.

This letter was prompted by the revelation that a clinic in Winnipeg is charging patients for ultrasounds and echocardiograms. These fees represent a barrier to the many Manitobans who cannot afford to pay out of pocket for health care.

“We will not stand by as Pallister cuts the quality of care Manitobans expect, closing emergency rooms, shutting rural ambulance stations, cancelling physiotherapy and occupational therapy for those recovering from major surgery, and then allows profiteering to occur in blatant violation of the principles of we hold of a universally accessible public health care system,” said Kinew. “We look forward to the response of the federal Minister.”
