Kinew Kicks Off Health Care Listening Tour Tomorrow

December 11, 2017

Tomorrow, NDP Leader Wab Kinew will kick off his Health Care Listening Tour at the Grand Mosque at 2445 Waverley Street.

Members of the public are invited to share their concerns about health care with Kinew, and their vision for the health system they want to see in their communities.

This past year, Manitobans have seen the closure of the Victoria ER, the Misericordia Urgent Care Centre, the Mature Women’s Centre, along with cuts to physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Many other changes have also affected patients, like cuts to dedicated IV nurses, lactation consultants and audiologists. Pallister has been approving cuts without concern for how they will affect the care that patients receive at the bed side.

“Pallister’s health cuts are making life harder for Manitobans. Cuts are not the answer to challenges in health care. They won’t help address the overall health of Manitobans, which drives costs. We need investments in upstream, preventative care that will keep people healthy at home,” said Kinew.

Kinew reiterated the pillars of his approach to health care: stronger primary prevention, mental health, and pharmacare, while reinvesting savings from these shifts upstream in the acute care Manitobans rely on.
